Supertech Racing Valves and Pistons

Supertech Racing Valves and Pistons

DESIGN:

Supertech Performance uses their experience of more than 20 years in the manufacturing of racing valves, do intensive testing and work very closely with many engine builders in order to continuously improve and provide the market with the best possible product for every application.

High flow rates, durability and quality are of great concern to Supertech Performanace.

Note regarding FLAT or DISHED head. Flat is for all motor applications, and will give a slight boost in compression. The Dished head valve is slightly lighter, and used for turbo applications.

MATERIALS:

Supertech Performance manufactures racing valves in many different materials like Stainless Steel, Nimonic, Inconel, Titanium, etc. There are different alloys, heat treatments and coatings used for different applications. For most of the alloys, Supertech Perormance follows the specifications under SAE standard J775.

The most popular used in applications:

STAINLESS STEEL VALVES

Made in one piece forged stainless steel. Supertech Performance uses mainly SAE EV8 (UNS S63008) for the Intake and Exhaust valve.

Supertech Performance apply's different heat treatments to this material to obtain different hardness and ductility in accordance to application and budget (Street Performance or Heavy Duty Racing).

Supertech use two different kinds of coatings:

A: Chrome coating, widely used in high performance valves.

B: Black Nitrided: this is a hardening treatment that even though it is not widely used as the chrome coating, it has several benefits and is becoming very popular, mainly for European and Japanese applications.

Supertech High Performance Race Engine Valves

  1. The microhardness is higher than the stainless steel base material, keeping good ductility beneath the hard nitrided layer (microhardness is 800HV minimum).
  2. Surface finish is smoother than with chromed stems, having less friction between stem and guide.
  3. Valve seat surface is harder with the nitrided layer, lasting longer with lead free fuels, alcohols, nitro or other "explosive" mixes. Matches any kind of seats (nodular iron seats, steel powder metal seats, hard aluminum-copper seats or beryllium copper seats).
  4. Higher rpm's engines take full advantage of all previous features. The higher the engine speed the bigger the power loss due to internal engine friction! The black nitride layer reduces this power loss due to less valve-guide friction.
  5. The nitrided layer is adhered to the base material at a microscopic level, so does not "flake" or break when the valves bend due to impacts with the pistons.
  6. The Black Nitride applies to the whole valve while the chrome coating is only applied to the stem.

All valves are swirl polished, have stem undercut and a hardened tip.
