Girodisc is guided under the direction of company Principal Martin Meade, who spent five years as an Engineer with Porsche Engineering Services, where he played a role in developing current Porsche technology. Martin began his engineering career working in Aerospace, developing tools and components for special projects. Before working with Porsche, Martin learned a great deal about vehicle design and technologies by working with several vehicle design and development firms. Martin has developed a critical eye and will not accept anything but the best quality.
Martin has enlisted help from key sources such as a former Road Testing engineer and Design Engineer for AP Racing in the UK and another individual from Brembo North America in the High Performance division. With lessons learned at AP Racing and Brembo, and experience in prototype and racing car design, these individuals have developed a broad spectrum of engineering capabilities in the world of high performance automobiles, and specifically the technologies for developing braking systems.
Girodisc designs and engineers the replacement discs after documenting and studying the OE brake system and specifically the disc design. After analyzing the data and determining how best to maximize the benefit of the new disc, the design process is carried out using 3D CAD-CAE (Computer aided drafting, Computer aided engineering). Prototypes are constructed and tested with a vehicle. When the Girodisc team is satisfied that the disc will meet the goals established for the vehicle, it is produced in limited quantities and released for sale.

The Girodisc system is a direct replacement for the OE disc. No modifications are necessary. The disc will bolt directly to the car and work with OE calipers perfectly. By upgrading your brakes with lightweight high performance replacements as opposed to a big brake kit, your factory bias is maintained as well as your ABS efficiency. The Girodisc front rotors are approx XX.Xlbs vs. XX.Xlbs for the stock units. This reduction in rotational and unsprung weight allows for quicker acceleration and suspension response.
The central hat section of the disc is made from 6061-T6 aircraft specification aluminum. The disc is made from a proprietary high carbon content cast iron to the same specification as used by professional racing organizations. It is a curved vane design, developed in racing to act as a centrifugal pump to force cooling air through the disc. Comparatively most OEM discs utilize pillar vanes to keep tooling costs down however they do not actively cool the rotor which can lead to accelerated wear and premature crack propagation.
The rotor and hat have a floating mount system, which utilizes 10 high strength alloy steel drive pins, manufactured in house by Girodisc to our own specifications and cadmium plated for a long lasting corrosion resistance. These pins take the load from braking actions while maintaining the axial and radial float between the hat and disc. In order to keep the rotors from making noise when cold, the pins are mounted with anti-noise spring washers on the rotor side which allow the rotor to grow with heat expansion but eliminate the rattle and noise associated with floating rotors. This float also allows the rotor to self-center between the pads.
Once the Girodisc system is in place, simply replace the cast iron rotor ring when needed, our replacement rotor rings come with all new hardware. Girodisc offers a free rebuild service with the purchase of new rotor rings, simply send in your hats and we will inspect them to make sure they are still within all tolerances, assemble the new rotor rings for you, and turn the entire assembly to ensure they are within our specifications for run-out.
When used with performance pads and hi-temp fluid, you have what amounts to a truly amazing solution to overheating or warping rotors.
Cross drilled and slotted rotors are available for an additional $75 per pair. Custom color anodize treatment to the rotor hats is also available for $100 per pair but can take 3-4 weeks depending on our next production run for the given application.
